POST PRODUCTION MEDIA MANAGEMENT
ORGANIZING AUDIO, TIMELINE AND TRACKS IN POST PRODUCTION
PART I. SYNC
Syncing is aligning or conforming the audio to the video file in the project's timeline. Using time code to jam sync the cameras to the field recorder during production is the easiest and most accurate way to merge video and audio in post. Since some cameras we regularly use in the industry don't have time code capabilities, a slate can be used to create a common marker between devices. The embedded camera audio can also give you a reference point to match audio and video which comes in handy when manually syncing with or without a common marker.

PART II. EdITING AND ORGANIZATION (UNder construction)
The amount of audio editing done during the video editing process will differ widely from project to project. In the case of low budget indie productions the responsibilities in post are usually spread among a handful of people, when in a perfect world there would be a team of people for each department. Because of these conditions video editors are often tasked with pre-mixing the dialog, adding foley and placement of the score.

PART III. EXPORT AN OMF
When the project has been picture locked make sure media and timeline have been organized, remove unwanted music and SFX and make sure that all dialog and scoring are present in the timeline. You are now ready to create an OMF session file to send off for the sweetening, mixing and mastering process.
